One-day Seminar on Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Introduction

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is concerned with treating the stakeholders of the firm ethically or in a responsible manner. "Ethically or responsible manner" means treating stakeholders in a manner deemed acceptable in civilized societies. Social includes economic responsibility. Stakeholders exist both within a firm and outside. The natural environment is a stakeholder. The wider aim of social responsibility is to create higher and higher standards of living, while preserving the profitability of the corporation, for people both within and outside the corporation (Hopkins, 2004).

Companies which are making profits should also be responsible to contribute to some, although obviously not all, aspects of their stakeholders’ social development. Companies involved in their social environment development would benefit from it since it will make its products and/or services more attractive to the customer as a whole which means making the company more profitable.

Therefore CSR has positive impact on both parties, companies who implement it and society or stakeholders who get the benefits of the initiatives. The companies with CSR commitment will get long-term benefit or long-term profitability as mentioned above and with the support of their stakeholders it would get long-term sustainability.

Understanding Corporate Social Responsibility is, therefore, absolutely crucial for executives of the companies and their stakeholders. For these purposes Sampoerna School of Business & Management ITB offers a one-day seminar on "Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibilities"
